PRESENTING JAZZ LIVE AND ALIVE

Tad Newton’s Sunday Lunchtime Jazz on 8th October switched Blisworth venues
for a session in
The Royal Oak Barn, reminiscent of days gone by.
Stars of the show, The Sussex Jazz Kings.

Which would you have preferred, a touch of the blues, an aching heart, or a rag to
wipe away the tears? Fear not, none of the above were needed at
Ramsgate Seaside Shuffle where, on the Saturday afternoon,
when the band was Pete Leonard’s Red Hot & Blue.
“Formed originally as a community street band for the Whitstable Oyster Festival parade. The Native Oysters have evolved to become a funky, electrifying experience with tight, powerful horn arrangements and creamy, soulful vocals from traditional second-line
classics through Americana, 70’s funk, right up to full on hip-hop and R&B,
all given the Delta city treatment, Whitstable style.”
Humour, fun, repartee and of course, great jazz marked the The Culrose Seven’s opening session of the 2017 Ramsgate Seaside Shuffle Festival on Friday, 14th July.
The Colrose Seven are: Pete Rose (clt); Bill Jones (clt); Tom Clarke (sax); Ray Perkins (pno); Colin Hodges (bjo); Lisa Pentecost (bass); Jimmy Tagford (dms).
First on stage at this years Ramsgate Seaside Shuffle Festival was Dick Smith’s Temple Jazz Band. Not in The Small Boat Owners Club but in Andy Barrett’s Belgian Cafe. A great venue opposite the promenade where construction works prevented
the usual seafront brolly parade.
Popular belief is that Jazz has had its day. Not so! There are plenty of great bands on the jazz circuits - playing at Concerts, Clubs, Festivals. People say the musicians and fans are past their sell by dates and don’t attract younger audiences. Again, not so! There is a Jazz Revival! Numerous younger bands with growing numbers of enthusiastic young fans are making their mark.
“Jazz & Jazz” is an invaluable platform for news about young bands and musicians. It’s a great way for organisers like me to know what is going on! The enthusiasm of Peter Butler is inspirational and infectious and has certainly done much to boost the reputation of Fest Jazz beyond the boundaries of Brittany. Long may the site continue and flourish!”
Trevor Stent, Good Time Jazz
“Dear Peter, You have embarked on a lonely road. There have been few people painting New Orleans musicians over the years. There was one guy named Frank Caunce … in the 1965 - 72 period who was very good but not as organised as you. So keep doing what you are doing.”
Barry Martyn, New Orleans
“Very pleased to be associated with Jazz & Jazz. It promises to be be an influential contribution not just to the UK but to any one anywhere capable of accessing it. My Old Green River Band is delighted to have the opportunity to register its gigs and geographical whereabouts and to see the results this must have for all those associated.”
Martin Bennett, The Old Green River Band
“Fantastic Peter, you've got a talent for capturing people! Perhaps I need to have a shave!!!
Emile Martyn, The Fallen Heroes.
