Tad Newton’s Sunday Lunchtime Jazz on 8th October switched Blisworth venues
for a session in
The Royal Oak Barn, reminiscent of days gone by.
Stars of the show, The Sussex Jazz Kings.
Welcoming fans to the venue, Tad told of the days when, in the early to mid 70s, he joined a team of volunteers who renovated The Royal Oak Barn especially for jazz sessions. Bands and musicians who played there included Chris Barber, Alan Elsdon, The Temperance Seven, Pat Halcox, and Horace M Smith’s Acorn Jazz Club Resident Band.
The Lonesome Road
For reasons explained by Dave Stradwick on this YouTube, unavoidably the band line up on stage wasn’t the best. But, Dave, that gave me reason to use another Jazz&Jazz YouTube of The Sussex Jazz Kings at Ramsgate Seaside Shuffle back in 2016 – with the added bonus of Pete Lay in full view on drums and vocals: Breeze!
