The Krupa Connection – (formerly Three Men on Third)  featuring the music of the Gene Krupa Trio: Richard Exall (clarinet/sax), Alan Haughton (piano) and John Watson (drums)JohnWatsonDrums

Don’t miss this classic trio. The personnel of the original trios contained such giants as Charlie Ventura, Eddie Shu, Willie Smith, a Napoleon or two and
Hank Jones so you have to be good to take this on as a project. As you listen to the Krupa Connection you will marvel at the neat arrangements which maintain such excitement between the soloing.
The three instruments are cleverly meshed together to keep the surprises coming and the fireworks fizzing and popping.

Top London band “Graham Hughes’ Sunshine Kings” swing by OJC. Jazz inspired by the music of New Orleans, the singing and dancing of the 1920’s, the dixieland and trad revivals in America and the UK since then, and by the musicians we work with here and now from all over the world.

The Sunshine Kings brings it all together into a band that makes people of all ages dance, clap, tap toes, and go home with a smile. Great for dancing, great for listening, great for anyone wanting to have a good time.

Despite the “rumours”, Bill Freeman’s Happy Jazz Band will be Centre Stage at Lemsford Jazz Club, Sunday 3rd April!

To paraphrase Mark Twain, “Reports of Bill Freeman’s retirement have been greatly exaggerated”, especially in view of his forthcoming gig at Lemsford Jazz Club.

The Editorial Column in the April edition of Just Jazz began “Trumpeter Bill Freeman, who announced his retirement at the end of 2015, was a worthy member of these foot soldiers and led his troops for over 20 years, with very few changes of personnel”. The quote is from one of his loyal foot soldiers, Jimmy Hurd, writing in the March edition of Just Jazz.

Well, Bill and doubtless Jimmy, along with his Happy Jazz Band will star at Lemsford this coming Sunday, 3rd April. So if you want to enjoy Happy Jazz best come along.

Countdown to Fest Jazz 2016

Presenting an Overview of a Great Festival Weekend

“I know I bang the drum about the FestJazz Festival at Châteauneuf-du-Faou in Brittany, France, but it is so good, as they learned a long time ago how to attract young people. Young, quality bands, and the whole festival is run by older experienced people at the top and a mass of young people fully involved. It’s an enthusiastic ‘team’.” Norman Gibson

“A brilliant and unique festival where young AND old co-habitate the same genre. How refreshing not to be entrapped by the same old ‘same old’ and have a new slant on firm traditions without resorting to simply selling out to modern music and trends. Trevor Stent has something very special indeed here and it was a delight to be part of the 2015 programme and show my family the delights of jazz.” Sean Moyses

Bedford Jazz Festival 2016 Recaptured

The Quarry Theatre, The Corn Exchange, The Ent Shed, The Bedford Arms and the Pavilion Cafe were all alive with the sound of music during the 2016 Bedford Jazz Festival over the weekend 19th/20th March.

Frank Griffith’s article in The London Jazz News sums up a brilliant weekend and applauds Tom Syson and his Organising Committee for a very successful Festival, leaving it to this website to feature a selection of Jazz&Jazz YouTubes recapturing the musical memories at The Quarry Theatre and at a mainstay of jazz in Bedford, The Bedford Arms.

Final Call for The Bedford Jazz Festival 19th/20th March

‘Conscia Jazz Presents: The Bedford Jazz Festival 2016’

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all well.

Well March has gone fast hasn’t it! It only feels like yesterday that we first announced some of the acts for the ‘Conscia Jazz Presents: The Bedford Jazz Festival 2016’. It is very exciting that we are only 2 days away from the start of the festival, and I can’t wait to hear all of the acts perform.

Below is the final line up for the ‘Conscia Jazz Presents: The Bedford Jazz Festival 2016’, which includes the confirmation of ‘The London Vocal Project’ as the support act for our Sunday night event, as well as all of the ‘Community Stage’ artists. All events that are displayed below are on sale at www.conscia.org. Please remember that you do not need tickets for the ‘Community Stage’ as it is free entry.

For those of you who don’t know, as well as selling tickets for each individual event, we also have ‘Main Stage Passes’. These allow you to go to all four events on the ‘Main Stage’ on that given day with just one ticket; at just £29 for adults, and £21 for students!

Bedford Festival 19:20 March

We hope to see you all this weekend to celebrate this great genre of music in our town! If you have a moment, please tell your friends about what is going on to help spread the word about jazz in Bedford.

Many thanks
Tom Syson
