Featuring Cool Jazz Collective at The Landsdowne Club, Luton

On Sunday, 10th April, in keeping my longstanding promise to Elaine Hatton to feature her Quintet, Cool Jazz Collective on Jazz&Jazz, I took in jazz at The Landsdowne Club, Luton, for the first time. It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon – great music, great musicians and a very fine vocalist!

I filmed several numbers for YouTubes to be featured on Jazz&Jazz, beginning with “Deed I Do”.

Natalie de Jager is the daughter of my old Aussie chum, Garry de Jager. When Garry and his wife Roberta visited us during a trip to the UK last August they told us Natalie is a jazz singer.

So here, especially for Jazz&Jazz followers down under who live in the vicinity of Brisbane, is news of a very special concert on Sunday, 17th April, featuring Natalie and Sarah Collyer.

Great Jazz, “Dizzy” Bands, Full On Fun Assured for Fest Jazz, 2016

Dizzy-Birds-Current

Trevor Stent emailed me “Dizzy Birds are a superb group in my opinion!”

So as Trevor has booked them as one of the star turns for Fest Jazz, 2016, I took a look and came across this magical YouTube which surely evokes the mood and musical frivolity of this wonderful annual festival at Châteauneuf-du-Faou in Brittany, France.

Plus their very latest YouTube which Francois Perdriau has just supplied:

A truly international band, Dizzy Birds’ young musicians are based in Berlin but come from Denmark, Spain, France, Germany and the USA. Established as recently as 2013, the band interprets New Orleans Jazz and Ragtime with a flourish and energetic free style that attracts younger audiences right back to Jazz. They started out busking on the streets of Berlin but now play at clubs and prestigious jazz festivals throughout Europe.

Darktown Strutters Ball
“What I see are six young men playing the oldest jazz in the world. These are the Dizzy Birds, and they are part of the great revolution in jazz and swing music that is bringing back to the forefront a music that is far from dead.… They are playing Darktown Strutters Ball (Shelton Brooks, 1917) with dexterity and style within the tradition of New Orleans jazz music from the 1920s… they are having fun and they’ve tapped into the roots of what made jazz music hot 100 years ago.”
Patrick Faurot, Just Jazz, April, 2016.

Band Members
Eldar Tsalikov (RUS: alto saxophone and clarinet); Laurent Humeau (C.I.: guitar, soprano sax and clarinet); Paul Voit (GER: guitar, banjo); Francois Perdriau (FR: bass drum, cymbal, woodblock and bell); Flocko Motion (GER: double bass and tuba); Carlos St. Ana (ESP: piano and trombone)

This year Fest Jazz falls on the weekend of Friday, 29th till Sunday, 31st January.
Book NOW and we’ll see you and Dizzy Birds there!
