Ramsgate Seaside Shuffle Presents The Old Green River Band’s Howard Murray on Tenor Sax

Anticipating battling Bank Holiday traffic travelling from up north to south coast Kent with The Old Green River Band in their battle bus, Martin Bennett posted on Facebook: “It’s a great venue at The Small Boat Owners’ Club and we wouldn’t miss our Ramsgate Seaside Shuffle gig for anything!”

Nor did they, as the magical YouTube above, filmed by my newly appointed Special Assistant, Helen Pout, wonderfully demonstrates.

Thanks for making it to The Shuffle, Martin!

La Section Rythmique at Fest Jazz 2016: “I Cover The Waterfront”

La-Section-Rythmique

La Section Rythmique stars three of the best known musicians in French jazz: David Blenkhorn (Guitar), Sebastien Girardot (double bass) and Guillaume Nouaux (drums). Their repertoire ranges from New Orleans to Creole, Funk and Blues.

It was my privilege to film them at Fest Jazz 2016 playing to a marquee teeming with fans.

Colin, You Will Be Greatly Missed!

ColinKingwell

After 60 years playing trombone as leader of Colin Kingwell’s Jazz Bandits, Colin has announced his retirement at the end of 2016.

“As an aficionado of classic jazz and the jazz scene in general, we will miss his leadership and we thank him for his devotion to the New Orleans style of jazz. We wish him well and hope he will continue to play the trombone as a great artiste, without the worry and responsibility of
leading a band.

“As from 2017, the band will continue as the NEW ORLEANS JAZZ BANDITS under the stewardship of Malc Murphy, with the full support of the remainder of the band”

The 2017 diary is filling up fast!

Malo Mazurié Makes a Welcome Return to Fest Jazz, Châteauneuf-du-Faou

Malo-Quartet

Sensational young trumpeter, Malo Mazurié, first starred at Fest Jazz in 2005 when
just twelve years old.

Already an international star with concerts from Tokyo to New York, he also played at Fest Jazz, 2015. So Fest Jazz fans revelled in the privilege of having him back again this year with his Quartet. In fact such was a sudden surge of fans into the marquee that I was forced to cut filming short. To make up for this, also included is the second YouTube of his star turn with Sean Moyses at
Fest Jazz last year.

This sensational young trumpeter played in the first Fest Jazz at the age of 12 in 2005. Since then he has become an international star with concerts from Tokyo to New York.

Fest Jazz Presents The Usual Suspects with “Mon Hôte” on Bass!

Usual-Suspects

Band Leader Bryan admits his band, “The Usual Suspects”, are into Blues rather than Jazz!

So what? Fest Jazz is somewhat eclectic with its music and that helps gets the youngsters involved in jazz.

The Usual Suspects are all about playing the music they love. “The tightest rhythm section this side of Paris and two of the best guitarists you’ll find anywhere, playing music that they love, The Usual Suspects are known for playing gritty, dirty blues and funk guaranteed to get you moving.”

Based in Finistere, Brittany, two highly regarded French musicians Gérard Macé and Philippe Brunel joined forces with veterans of the British music scene, Bryan Ylon and Richard Sattin to form the dynamic quartet.

Following their stunning debut at Fest Jazz in 2014, they perform a set of blues classics by greats such as Freddie King, the Beatles, BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Tom Petty, Stevie Wonder and many more. Their superb musicianship never gets in the way of a good tune and having a good time, and with years of experience between them, the Usual Suspects “like to rock!” (http://www.usualsuspects.fr)

“Mon Hôte” on Bass?

But why “Mon Hôte” on Bass? A very good reason! Ginny and I stayed with Brian and his wife Jilly over the festival weekend in the most comfortable riverside haven in Brittany you could imagine. Where is it? For now that’s our secret because we aim to stay with Brian and Jilly for Fest Jazz, Châteauneuf-du-faou, again next year!
