Anticipating battling Bank Holiday traffic travelling from up north to south coast Kent with The Old Green River Band in their battle bus, Martin Bennett posted on Facebook: “It’s a great venue at The Small Boat Owners’ Club and we wouldn’t miss our Ramsgate Seaside Shuffle gig for anything!”
Nor did they, as the magical YouTube above, filmed by my newly appointed Special Assistant, Helen Pout, wonderfully demonstrates.

Hello Peter,
Some good stuff on Jazz & Jazz following our trip down to Ramsgate to The Small Boat Owners’ Club. We had a very sociable night there, quite apart from the music, since Ron Sheldrake was celebrating his 90th birthday. He handed out a free drink voucher to every person who came through the door, made a splendid speech to start off the night and carried on as though it was his 50th. He rang me some time prior to the gig to say he was delighted the band was going to be there for the party. As usual, the food was in heavy overload and everyone took full advantage of the enormous spread. The band had a thoroughly good time well looked after by John on the door and Chris i/c kitchen and coffee. We are currently awaiting a date from John for a return match in 2017.
Really pleased about this, Martin. East Kent was the birth place of jazz for me many moons ago. Ginny and I did just a little to help launch Ramsgate Seaside Shuffle in 2011 and still handle their promos. Went to school with Chris’s husband Roger and we have been very close friends since they were married, exchanging visits and weekend stays. It’s great to see their daughter Helen getting involved and sending me photos and a clip for a YouTube of your session. Hope to see you soon. Best wishes, Peter.
