Celebrating the Joy of Jazz
Tuba Skinny went down a storm at Fest Jazz, Châteauneuf-du-Faou, Brittany, in July, 2014. The grand marquee audience was spellbound. This was just about the only number I could film in the marquee without dancers blocking the view. But then that’s what Fest Jazz is about, fun, great jazz and DANCING.
Thank you Trevor Stent and Châteauneuf-du-Faou for Fest Jazz. May it continue to reach the heights of this, its Tenth Anniversary year.

Sadly Bill, who is 87, announced to the audience that he would soon be “taking early retirement” as band leader and jazz musician. You will be sorely missed by your enduring fans, Bill.

Ginny and I were delighted to meet Patti Durham at Fest Jazz in Brittany in July. She was great company and along with Norman Gibson and Barry Pryme and their wives we formed firm friendships.
Patti gave us flyers promoting her late husband, Mike Durham’s Classic Party 2014. Mike was such a force in jazz that it’s wonderful that the event still carries his name. So although it’s not until November, when I learnt that numbers are limited and bookings are coming in fast, I decided to feature it on Jazz&Jazz.

The Limehouse Jazzband, formed in 1965, is soon to celebrate it’s Golden Jubilee. Originally from Haarlem City, near Amsterdam, the band has developed a huge reputation for specialising in New Orleans music of the 1920/1932 era.
Robert Duis
Musicians from the band, including their leader, Robert Duis, appeared at Jazz Fest in Châteauneuf-du-Faou in July as The Limehouse Seven, featured in the festival programme as “A Virtuoso Group specialising in the Art of New Orleans Music”.
Robert has since introduced the band to Jazz&Jazz. Their website is at: http://www.limehouse-jazzband.nl and I am pleased to feature their forthcoming gig in The Netherlands on Friday, 15th August, “JAZZ BUFFET”, at Beek, Montferland.

Formed in 1962, The Frog Island Jazz Band plays classic 1920’s and 30’s New Orleans Jazz ranging from Jelly Roll Morton’s Red Hot Peppers, Johnny Dodd’s Blackbottom Stompers, Papa Celestin’s Tuxedo Jazz Orchestra and King Oliver’s Creole Jazz Band. In this YouTube they delighted Ramsgate Seaside Shuffle fans with Milenberg Joys
during the July, 2014 Festival.

True to their New Orleans style, The Frog Islanders got Ramsgate Seaside Shuffle’s 2014 Festival off to a rip roaring start on the evening of Friday, 11th July. The hall was packed making filming the full band difficult. So in the YouTube below I focused on the brass conclave: Graham Reed (tuba), John Whitehead (trumpet), John Jeans (trombone) plus
Jimmy Hurd on clarinet.
Pure, rhythmic New Orleans music that got the festival off to a flying start.
