Yes, it rained a little, but not nearly enough to dampen applause for Tad Newton’s Jazz Friends at Fest Jazz 2014. Nor to dampen spirits – watch out for the dancers
who took to the floor.

Pizza Express Jazz Club, Dean Street, hosted an outstanding London debut for 19 year old star Andrea Motis (vocals, soprano sax & trumpet). Pizza Express likened the young Catalonian star to Norah Jones who also made her London debut at the same venue.
Andrea is accompanied by Joan Chamorro (contrabass and tenor sax); Ignasi Terraza (piano);
Josep Traver (Guitar); Esteve Pi (Drums).

This magical number is “Flor De Lis” by Djavan.

Joan Chamorro conducts his phenomenal band of youngsters in the spellbinding finale at Châteauneuf-du-Faou’s Tenth Anniversary Fest Jazz, July, 2014. Absorb the rapturous audience applause as I pan around the packed marquee between numbers.

A spellbinding session and it was a privilege to film it. I asked one of
Tuba Skinny’s musicians what he thought of The Sant Andreu Band.
He replied, “Scary Good!”

East St Louis Toodle-OO

Back in February, 2014, I launched my Jazz&Jazz YouTubes.
The theatre was packed and, filming from way back in The Gods,
I began with one of the most challenging of stage performances:
The Big Chris Barber Band at Wyllyotts Theatre, Potters Bar.

The Big Chris Barber Band recaptures the magic of 1920’s Blues with trombonist Bob Hunt’s gripping arrangement of this superlative Duke Ellington number first recorded in 1927.
