Richard Elmes posted a brief message on my Facebook Jazzers Group yesterday: “I’m devastated to say that Steamboat’s wonderful trumpet player and great friend Tony Richards, died today after a very short illness. We will miss him so much….condolences to his family.”
Tony played with Richard’s “Steamboat Jazz Band”. They featured regularly at the Ramsgate Seaside Shuffle annual Summer Festival and at the monthly jazz sessions in the Ramsgate Small Boat Owners’ Club where I was privileged to film them.
In remembrance of Tony here he is with Steamboat, “Basin Street Blues”
