1. WE NEVER GIVE UP
There is news coming and going about cancelled and ceased jazz festivals (the latest is the prestigious Sacramento Jazz Jubilee) but this tendency just makes us stronger: we won’t give up and will continue organizing festivals and other jazz events as we don’t want to see classic jazz come to an in  end in Hungary and elsewhere. But festivals are disappearing for a reason: it’s extremely difficult to keep up organizing cultural events. We haven’t emailed you for about half a year – for a reason: we’ve had difficult times too. With JAZZ CAPITAL we ended up with 42,000 EUR debt and my last few months have been all about chasing money (post-festival grants, individual support, fundraising concerts etc.) Now having paid all of our bills we have finished with just a 13,000 EUR debt. Well, even though this doesn’t sound good, I am proud of it. Having recovered from such difficulties we can be even stronger than before. So now it’s time to continue organising and announcing festivals.

Our Bohém Ragtime Jazz Band is doing well. We’ve been on television a few times, had a strong year in 2017 by completing five international tours and premiering my ragtime opera (only the second in the world). Plus we have a new banjo/guitar player, Csaba Hegedűs, who brings an inspiring addition to the band’s skills and sound.

2. 27th International Bohém Ragtime & Jazz Festival March 23-25
I know that this is very late notice but as I mentioned, we had to recover from the financial setbacks first. So now we have put together packages for 7 days (6 nights) in Hungary, linking some sight-seeing to the jazz festival. You can pay for the packages by sending donations to our non-profit Kecskemét Jazz Foundation. As our guests as we will take care of you from the minute you land at the airport in Budapest.

The line-up will be completed within a week and for our unique festival. The first show will be The Luthers, my ragtime opera that has been playing this season in the Debrecen Theatre; and also to great acclaim in Budapest’s Hungarian National Theatre. This will be followed by three concerts. The Bohém Ragtime Jazz Band’s guest star will be renowned trumpet player from the UK, Ben Cummings.

3. 3rd JAZZ CAPITAL festival Aug 2-5, 2018
Due to the fact that two football fields have been built at the venue and also because of the financial problems of last year there is still a question mark about the 2018 festival but I am working very hard organising the festival again. So please, reserve the first weekend of August for the big Summerfest in Kecskemét, Hungary. You can watch a 71-minute video about the festival in 2016.
