Eva Fernández Starring with Joan Chamorro and Andrea Motis at Fest Jazz 2014

Joan-Andrea-Eva

I pined for Fest Jazz at Chateauneuf du Faou, Brittany, this year. Trevor Stent kindly kept the doors open until the last moment but circumstances prevented Ginny and I
making the journey.

So I have delved into my MP4s to search for footage which would cheer me up and discovered movies of Eva, Joan and Andrea not yet uploaded for YouTube.

I hadn’t uploaded Andrea performing “Butterfly” until now because filming was cut short due to jostling fans just as she was about to play her trumpet solo. But it’s still magical so I didn’t want to leave it out. And she plays trumpet in “I Remember Clifford”!

Trevor has sent me photos of this year’s equally successful festival which I will post on Jazz&Jazz. Any YouTubes to come of the bands this year, Trevor?

  1. Philippe Briand says:

I was there! Eva was a gas, as were all the young musicians in Joan’s band. I enjoyed her playing on alto sax. Although she looks rather tall in this picture, Eva is actually a shrimp of a (lovely) girl. But what power ! In another video a available on YouTube, she plays the intro to Duke Ellington’s V.I.P Blues on baritone sax, and believe me, you’d think it was Harry Carney himself.

Joan Chamorro is a brilliantly inspirational teacher, Philippe, and as you know he turns his students into stars!

  3. Philippe Briand says:

I was there! I enjoyed every minute this incredible band, with Eva on alto saxophone. In one particular Youtube video, filmed in Barcelona, she plays baritone sax too. The tune is Duke Elligton’s V.I.P. Blues. She gets such a big powerful sound out of this unwieldy instrument, you’d think it was Harry Carney himself ! My grand son is holidaying in Japan. He tells me The Sant Andreu Jazz Band CD’s are on display all over the place. Congratulations to Mr Chamorro.
