In The Great Barn at Buckland Abbey
Saturday 18th July 2015 from 6.00pm till late!
Summer is here again! Following last year’s highly successful inaugural event, Plymouth Jazz Club is again holding its ‘Jazz on a Summer’s Evening’ at Buckland Abbey. This fine National Trust property near Yelverton was formerly a medieval abbey and later became home to Sir Francis Drake. Built by Cistercian monks some 700 years ago in a lovely setting of meadow and woodland, the magnificent Great Barn will provide the venue for an evening of hot jazz music. Two Jazz bands will play music for listening and dancing from 6.00pm to 11.00pm. Also available, will be a Hog Roast, bar, hot & cold drinks, National Trust pasties, cakes etc. and a raffle.
The early evening music will be provided by John Maddocks’ Jazzmen, a highly regarded traditional jazz band well known for its drive and the inclusion of some seldom heard tunes in the repertoire. The band continues to be popular for all kinds of functions throughout the UK including most of the major jazz venues and festivals, providing a great variety of toe-tapping music for listening and dancing.
Later on, returning by popular request, Richard Leach’s 7 Stars of Jazz features some of the most experienced jazz musicians across the country. With an eclectic mix of Chicago, Swing and Dixieland plus a hint of Vaudeville, the band doesn’t just play jazz, it involves and entertains the audience, creating a wonderful atmosphere and getting people dancing!
Tickets are now on sale and numbers are strictly limited.
