The Christmas Special at The Walnut Tree Jazz Club, Blisworth, proved to be extra special with Tad Newton’s Jazzfriends and guest star Simon Spillett playing to a packed house with standing room only for late comers!
Who says jazz is losing it’s appeal! The photos tell the story!
Shortly to be announced: Imminent events at The Walnut, The Castle in Wellingborough and Bedford Golf Club!

Very encouraging and no doubt great jazz, but I see not one young person…maybe a few ‘upper’ middle aged. Nice to see Whiting!
In MY old age, I forgot: “Happy New Year to all you jazz lovers” – and as for any NON jazz lover – “Make YOUR Happy New Year even happier by becoming one!! Come on you youngsters, get a mind of your own and don’t let the bloody media tell you what you should like and what you shouldn’t – at least give Traditional jazz a try! You might even like it. Of those who have given it a try, most love it!!
The photo of the audience was a cross section from about the only angle I could take it due to the “crush” There were some youngun’s there but not in the photo.
New Year Greeting reciprocated, Jim.
A brief off the cuff analysis. There are growing numbers of younger fans following the emerging younger bands, but they cling to their big city jazz gigs. When the younger bands stray further afield to play the long established jazz clubs, as they do, their younger fans tend not to follow them there. So meantime its up to us oldies to keep jazz clubs going in hope that this will change. I’m attempting to stick with it via Jazz&Jazz. In fact I introduced Graham Hughes to Alan Haughton and he’s booked Graham and his Sunshine Kings for February: https://www.jazzandjazz.com/?p=11015,
