Trefor Williams’ Usual Suspects playing on The Thames aboard “The Dixie Queen”. The occasion? John Petters’ “Sensational London River Boat Shuffle” on Saturday, 6th September. Capture the atmosphere, the swell of the river, the enthusiasm of the fans, the dancers, the visits to the bar!  – not the easiest of settings for grand performances, but then, for jazz musicians that’s par for the course. On water, they go with the flow!

Dave Hewitt, trombone; Trefor “Fingers” Williams, double bass; Denny Ilett, trumpet; Tim Huskisson, clarinet;  Emile Martyn, drums;  Dave Morwood, banjo.

During the cruise I met another great jazz photographer who goes under the pseudonym “Mark of Ealing”. He agreed to allow me to display the following selection of his photos of the cruise. I think you will agree they capture the on board atmosphere. Thank you Mark.

  1. John Petters says:

Julian calls the tempo on Runnin’ Wild ‘tempo de stupido. I thought at the start, are we going to get away with this. Surprised we did!
