“This music is happy music. It makes you feel good!”: Leroy Jones

I hadn’t seen Leroy Jones since I met him in Donna’s Bar, New Orleans, back in 2010.
So when I learnt about his current UK tour I seized the opportunity to get to get to his
St Albans concert on Thursday, 29th October.

Am I glad I did because it was so worth the journey south from Bedford. In fact it was the first time I had been back to The Arena Theatre since I was President of The St Albans Chamber of Commerce back in the early 1990s.

Leroy&PMB

Leroy I know but who’s that with him?

Without doubt, a keepsake!

Without doubt, a keepsake!

It’s quite a challenge filming for quality YouTubes of jazz bands and musicians during live gigs. You’re never sure which number is coming up next and of course there’s no chance of  “Take Two” opportunities. The band simply plays on whatever the cameraman’s dilemmas. Even so I captured some excellent footage which will be featured here on Jazz&Jazz as soon as the YouTubes are produced.

Meantime I simply had to post this YouTube of Leroy speaking to the audience because it is right in line with my aims and objectives of promoting jazz against all the odds of the stream of X-Factor numbers swamping the sound waves these days.
