The Dorine de Wit Band’s West Country Show, 3rd/5th March

Born to Become a Star!

Growing up in Enkhuizen, a hot bed of traditional jazz in Holland, with a father who plays banjo in the Freetime Old Dixie Jass Band, singer songwriter Dorine is no stranger to the traditional jazz scene.

After moving to Cornwall in 2007 she became a founder member of the popular RnB, jazz and ska band “Roadkill”. She also toured the UK and Denmark with the Rich Bennett Band – a busy and popular band on the British jazz scene often winning “band of the year” in the clubs for pulling in the biggest crowds of the year. Despite only starting to play guitar (and later banjo) in 2009, Dorine is a naturally talented musician. With her relaxed but driving banjo playing and natural, warm singing style, she quickly became immensely popular and a star attraction wherever she played. So much so that last year she took the leap and formed her very own band.

In announcing her West Country sessions, Dorine emailed:  “It’s a bit of a special one for me to start the season so close to home with a weekend in some intimate Devon and Cornwall venues. Jamie Brownfield will have just flown back from New Orleans where he is going to be one of three younger performers who will busk on the exclusive charter flight to the Big Easy for Mardi Gras. The 24-year-old trumpet player was selected for the flight by Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and pianist Jon Cleary, and double MOBO award-winning saxophonist Yolanda Brown.

“As well as Jamie, I’ll also be joined by my wonderful friends and musicians Ian Cox on bass, Dave Vaughan on saxophone and Jack Cotteril on drums.”
