Jake Leg Jug Band Fundraiser for Lancaster Boys & Girls Club: 7.30pm Wednesday, 28th January

Jake Leg Jug Band are a young, lively feel-good band. They bring the authentic sounds of the 1920/30’s America – Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Ragtime – and put their own twist on it!
Special Guest Mike Pembroke.

“Imagine 1920’s and 30’s America . . gangsters, bootleggers and chain gangs. This band recaptures that era  – songs about murder, betrayal, gambling, liquor and redemption. A really ‘Good Time’ band – come and have some !!!”  Norman Gibson

“It seems unbelievable that it was little over twelve months ago that I started ‘JAZZ4FUNDS’ to help Lancaster Boys and Girls Club, and even more unbelievable that the total has gone over £1,600 PLUS SOME!!! All while we have been seeing some really good performances at reasonable cost, in a really good comfortable venue and with drinks over 50% cheaper than pub prices!”

Thanks for this posting Peter, and thanks also for the splendid service you are giving the up and coming younger musicians, who are enthralling us with their enthusiastic approach and style to the jazz music we have enjoyed for so many years. Norman

And thanks for the accolade, Norman. We’ve got to swing older fans over to the younger bands. I don’t think they realise just how many there are. I’ll do my utmost to cover and feature as many of them as I possibly can in the shortest possible time. We also need to get as many as possible of these bands out on the road touring the clubs. Some already do.

    Peter

  3. Peter Butler says:

“I think this publicity is great and can only be of benefit to the band. Thanks for the effort Norman and Peter. I wish more promoters were like you”.

    Mike Pemboke

  4. Norman Gibson says:

The weather last night was pretty awful, not something bands or promoters care for ! Fortunately we only lost a few jazzers and managed a 79 audience. The band, however, had an horrendous M6 journey, taking over four hours for what should have been, more or less. a two hour trip ! Starting just over half an hour late, they managed to complete their programme by us shortening the breaks, and they got their packing up under way just five minutes after the planned 10.30pm finish time ! We have to recognise their supreme efforts and trust their return trip was less hazardous ! Norman ‘JAZZ4FUNDZ’

  5. Peter Butler says:

I wish you better at your next event, Norman. Give me good notice about it.

As for our bands, they’d go to the ends of the earth!
