Dr Jazz was written by Joe “King” Oliver in 1926. This rendition by Barry Palser’s
Super Six Jazz Band dates back to 27th March, 2014, and a full house at
The Bedford Golf Club.
Barry Palser (trombone), John Crocker (sax and clarinet, vocals, ex Chris Barber Band), Alan Gresty (trumpet and vocals, ex Monty Sunshine Band), Harvey Weston (bass, ex Alex Welsh Band), and Tony Pitt (banjo, ex Kenny Ball, Terry Lightfoot Bands) plus Barry’s own dynamic drummer, John Tyson.

I thought Jelly Roll Morton wrote this. Us old New Orleans musicians know what it referred to.
You thought wrong, Robert, my L.P. of Mr Morton lists Oliver as the composer and check with Wikipedia which says Joe King Oliver wrote it in 1926. The publisher claims himself as co-composer. ( Walter Melrose). Musicians always get shafted, best wishes,Peter, keep up the fight, Eric.
Thank you for your best wishes, Eric. I’m striving to do just that – ie keep up the fight. During the current live jazz shut down due to Coronavirus I’m rerunning a series of my Jazz&Jazz YouTubes to help keep the spirit of jazz alive. I’ve over 400 of them so I’ll keep rerunning them even after the panics are over. They have now reached standards required by and been approved by Google to carry ads. Happily and hopefully a much needed source of income for me to cover costs as I’m not happy about seeking donations despite my Donate Button. Come to that, it’s time I posted another YouTube today.
