The New Orleans Ragtime Festival: 5th – 9th April

The New Orleans Ragtime Festival

Returning to America’s jazz city for the third year running this five-day festival will span across multiple venues as it promotes the musical legacy of the Ragtime Movement through performance and education.

Tonya Echo

I met Tonya Excho during a visit to New Orleans in 2010 for the French Quarter Festival after which we worked together for a while on various projects. So I was delighted to hear from her yesterday when she asked if I could help promote The New Orleans Ragtime Festival. Tonya emailed me:

“I am wondering if you could post to your social media and blog about The Ragtime Festival. I started this in 2016, and it is growing. I know it is late notice but I have 3 other projects I work on in addition to the festival. I have no employees as of yet, so I do everything, very overwhelming at times. I will let you know 2019 festival info much sooner.”

Admirable, and I’m delighted to help, Tonya, especially as we have a good many mutual friends in New Orleans. I know what it’s like working on such projects without assistance and on shoestring budgets. To this day I am in the same boat! But in the short time I had to get to know you in
New Orleans I realised that you are a go-getter!

So Jazz Fans, go get!

There are ragtime enthusiasts all over this country that have been yearning for this kind of an event. We have had requests from concert performers that want to be able to play at our event from Scandinavia, France, England, and Holland. While we are honored with these requests, we are supporting our beloved New Orleans by only hiring local musicians for the time being.  No other city could pull off an endeavor like this.  This is a true, “only in New Orleans” event.

In an effort to make The New Orleans Ragtime Festival accessible to its fans around the world, we are encouraging engagement across Facebook: The New Orleans Ragtime Festival, Instagram: nolaragfest, Twitter:@nolaragfest, and our website:
