Noel McCalla & Derek Nash

Noel McCalla, making his debut at Crazy Coqs, will be kicking up a storm to those who like their music with a deep down groove, supported by the heavy weight UK jazz great saxophonist Derek Nash and his band. Noel rose to fame as the featured vocalist with the classic 80’s uk jazz funk band Morrisey Mullen. He then spent 17 years fronting Manfred Manns Earthband, notching up albums with Genesis star Mike Rutherford (Smallcreeps day) also performing with funk band Mezzoforte. This incredible charismatic performer is now found singing soul, gospel, blues and working on a new project of Stevie Wonder music.

At the forefront of the British Jazz movement, Derek Nash is “one of the most versatile saxophonists in the UK today” (The Guardian). Derek has been a member of the Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra since 2004, has led Sax Appeal for over thirty years, fronts the funk/fusion band Protect the Beat, and is a member of the Ronnie Scott’s Blues Explosion. He is renowned for his energetic, vibrant, passionate and charismatic performances on all four saxophones, and is an award-winning performer having received the John Dankworth Award and the British Jazz Award (Small Group) for Sax Appeal. He received Best Jazz CD of the Year for Young Lions, Old Tigers with the late Spike Robinson, receiving the same British Jazz Award for “Joyriding” by The Derek Nash Acoustic Quartet in 2012.

Noel and Derek are joined for this Crazy Coqs concert on Piano by Neil Angilley, on Bass by Orefo Orakwue and on drums by Nic France.

Crazy Coqs is London’s leading cabaret style entertainment venue; an intimate compelling purpose made cabaret room, part of the Brasserie Zedel complex owned by the company that created the Capital city’s famous dining experiences the Woolsley and the Delaunay.
