“Beauty” and Ben Holder Set to Enthral Fans at Fest Jazz 2016

Forgive me Ben, for the perhaps not so subtle implication, but imagine featuring at a jazz festival which also stars the “intoxicating” Taimane Gardner.

No need to imagine it, Jazz Fans and festival goers. Ben Holder and Hawaian Taimane Gardner will be star acts at Fest Jazz in July this year. They may not share the same stage but we can promise dynamic performances to conjure up vivid memories.

TaimaneTaimane is the international star of the ukulele. She has played for George Clooney, John Travolta and the Dalai Lama … now she is playing at Fest Jazz!  A rare European concert for this amazing young talent.

Ben-ViolinTaught classically from the age of six, Ben studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire and is one of the most gifted and exciting young jazz violinists in the UK with an innate sense of swing rhythm inspired by greats such as Grappelli and Joe Venuti.

Below are just two YouTube previews but book quickly for Fest Jazz 2016 at Châteauneuf-du-Faou to see them live along with a host more amazing bands and musicians.

Trevor Stent has headed off on a much needed break, but just before he left he asked me to post this comment in response to the post:

“Every year at Fest Jazz we have a couple of “quirky” acts to put in the mix. This year we are delighted to welcome this young virtuoso of the ukulele, Taimane Gardner, from Hawaii. In my recent “Just Jazz ” article I wrote that I feared there would be some harrumphing from the “Goon Show, Duffel Coat and 1957 Chris Barber brigade”. What do other people think?”

Having been running jazz nghts successfully for over 10 years I know where Trevor’s coming from. I had a top UK band one night and I got a ‘where did you dig this lot up from ?’ from an exiting jazzer. Even one idiot lady, a classically trained singer, commented on the amazing ‘Spats’, ‘well he can’t sing’. One soon learns to ignore these from Trevor’s aforementioned ‘brigade’, and please the majority and one’s self. Trevor has been getting the mix right for years now, and that is why Fest Jazz Brittany is the best festival I know of and others doing the same old same as are failing.
